Barb LeCuyer, Human Resources Generalist

"My grandma was a nurse. My mom and aunt were nurses. My sister is a nurse, and my niece is in nursing school. What a great occupation—helping others when they are sick and need care and comfort the most. But I could not fathom having this occupation. I didn’t want to be so responsible for someone’s health—and maybe their survival (plus I don’t like to touch people in certain areas or deal with body fluids)! So I did what I could in another area to help others that care for those that are hospitalized. I work in a hospital in Human Resources as a Generalist, covering areas of orientation, recognition, helping staff with benefit questions, and their pay. I also meet with the employees about union issues and their contracts and help them with concerns surrounding their performance, or when they have troubles with their coworkers or their leader. Employees just need a safe place to come and talk about what they need to be comfortable and happy at work. I am so grateful to have found my niche. I LOVE HR! I am personable and social and getting to know our employees really 'feeds' me. Though I am not touching or caring for our patients, I am caring—in my own way—for their caregivers. This is what makes my work so meaningful."
