Sollita Lucero, Girls Athletic Leadership School (GALS)

"I'm Sollita Lucero and I am a mental health clinician and licensed clinical social worker here at GALS."

"As a clinician, it's amazing to see students grow, to see them integrating the things they're learning in therapy into their lives. It's beautiful to see a student's growth from having social anxiety, to interacting with peers during lunch."

"This summer, I'm chaperoning a trip to London for a couple of students. I'm teaching them that you might not think it's possible because of the price, but if you put in a little hustle and a lot of heart, you can make it happen. I love seeing the switch in their mind of like, 'No, miss, we're poor, we can't go,' to like, 'Okay. What do I gotta do? I gotta babysit. I got to do this.'"

"I have a lot of roles here and I just love all of the different interactions I have with all of the students here. And they know that at the end of the day—whether they know me because they come in to see me a lot or they don't really know me, but they've heard of me—they feel comfortable coming in here, into this safe space that we've created to talk about their problems. I can hold that space with them."
